Maguire menunjukkan sinarnya bersama timnas Inggris pada Piala Dunia 2018 kemarin. Berkat kelugasannya di jantung pertahanan, skuat besutan Gareth Southgate itu pun bisa melampaui ekspektasi dengan mencapai babak semifinal.

“Tentu saja bermain di Piala Dunia, bila sukses seperti kami, maka akan ada pemain yang diincar. Itulah bagian dari permainan,” ujar Maguire .

“Saya berbicara dengan Leicester setelah mendapat ketertarikan dari klub, dan mereka menegaskan bahwa saya tidak dijual. Saya menghormati keputusan itu,” lanjutnya.
Maguire mengaku tidak bisa melupakan jasa Leicester City yang membesarkan namanya hingga bisa tampil di Piala Dunia. Karena utang budi itulah, ia memutuskan untuk setia bersama The Foxes.
“Mereka memberi saya kesempatan main di Premier League, saat saya baru saja terdegradasi bersama Hull. Ini adalah klub tempat saya menikmati waktu. Saya bermain setiap pekan, yang tentunya sangat penting untuk saya,” terangnya.
“Mereka memberi saya wadah untuk bermain di Piala Dunia, jadi saya merasa berutang kepada mereka dan menghormati keputusannya,” tuturnya.
Maguire bukanlah satu-satunya pemain yang cukup setia membela Leicester. Salah satu pahlawan The Foxes saat menjuarai Premier League tahun 2015, Jamie Vardy, saat ini masih menjadi tumpuan di lini depannya.
